RS Hanna Spring Showcase

Teamwork
16 x 20 oil

This is one of the paintings I'll be showing at the RS Hanna Spring Showcase in
Fredericksburg, Tx. beginning on February, 1st.
Join us for the art walk on February 2nd if you're in the area.

It's interesting to me how in these rodeo bulldogging events there is a
balance of brawn and finesse.  Plus the horse in 'ALL IN'.
The cowboy is at that moment when he lands on the steer, the horse charges on
and his foot naturally releases from the stirrup,  his right arm closes up around the horn to the
elbow and he exits from his horse and his weight throws the calf  to the ground.

It's quite the dance of teamwork between the horse and rider, and
there is a delicate light touch before the action happens.
IMHO the calf looks appropriately miserable.

Prickly Pear by Bruce Bingham

Prickly Pear
8x10 oil

I was so pleased to have this plein air painting receive a finalist award in
the Gateway International Painting Contest
judged by Kathie Odom last December.
Thank you and congratulations to all the eleven other finalists.
You can see all the finalists and read the judges comments
by clicking here.

I feel really grateful and encouraged when I get a
pat on the back like this.
We all know it's very subjective and a game of chance.

A word about my plein air painting and what I'm trying to do.
My focus in on creating in interesting surface texture, a pleasing design, and a range of values.
I'm also trying to trust my intuition and not second guess myself,
because there just isn't time.

Thank you all for your support and following along!

AIS and Holly Daze

Tea Time
Oil 9x12

I was so excited to have my painting Tea Time accepted into the
American Impressionists Small Works Show.
I'm always surprised and delighted to be accepted.
Competitions like this seem like a game of chance.

This painting was a playful experiment of color and mark making.
I set up a still life and did a painting.
Then I used the painting I did as a very loose reference for this exercise.

Painting goes much better for me if I can release expectations
and enjoy the process of making marks with color.

The AIS show will be held at
Greenwich House Gallery
Cincinnati, OH
March 23 -April 21. 2018

On another note:
I woke up from my Holly Daze and realized- WOW
I've got to get to work!
I have alot of deadlines and have been painting up a storm.
I've been so busy I haven't had time to share with you as much as I'd like.

Coming up:
RS Hanna Spring Showcase
Hosted by RS Hanna Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX.
The show opens February 1, 2018
More details coming soon!

Thanks for following along:)
