Love of Lavender

                        Love of Lavendar

I wanted to share this photo with you of my new friend Linda
in the lavender fields.  Looks like a painting doesn't it?
Humm, maybe later when I get home and want to relive
some fond memories of France in my studio.

I want to thank everyone who has expressed an interest
in receiving postcards from France.  I'm going to spend
my remaining time here doing as many as possible so
I can share a little piece of this wonderful experience with
you!

Thanks so much for following along!

Postcards

Meet my new buddy Loki. He's full of mischief and always ready to help.  He gave me a paw
just yesterday when I was trying to work on my postcards.  I promise I've been working on
some for the give-a-way at the end of the workshop.  Proof:

I can't tell you how excited I am about the direction my oil paintings are taking.  Dreama is
really is inspiring me along with all the other delightful artists, the beautiful scenery, the food,
wine and exquisite ambience of France.  It's the total package.

I want to share some photos I took the other day from Saint-Cirq L'Apopie, a medieval village
on a hillside, filled with gorgeous flowers, overlooking Le Lot river.

If you'd like to sign up for the drawing for the free postcard give-away from France just send
me an email with your name and address to brucebingham@gmail.com.
Thanks for following along!

Happy Days

Le Vieux Couant is so charming, it's made by artist's for artists. Everywhere you look is another painting opportunity.

And we've been so busy!  Dreama has given us demos in oil and watercolor.  Just between us, it's my first watercolor demo ever and I found it really useful.

Yesterday we visited a wonderful market in Cahours to make watercolor sketches and to pick up items to contribute to a picnic beside the Lot river.
Plus I've even had time to paint:)  Hope you have too!
Post cards will be going out soon so stay tuned!

Welcome!

Welcome!  You have arrived.  Who said you can't have your cake and eat it too? Well, they were wrong.  Having a cuppa tea with new friends, eating a piece of homemade lemon cake and washing all that down with a studio tour.  Now if that isn't a slice of heaven I don't know what is!

Standing Against the Wind

Standing Against the Wind  9x12 oil on board

It's been unseasonably windy in Malta.  It wasn't quite
gale force winds today.  How do I know? This time
I managed to actually keep my visor on, but
everything else still needed to be taped or weighted down.
We still had a good time in the garden just outside
of the capital Valetta. You can see part of
the old wall that still surrounds the city.

Red Barn

Red Barn 5x7 oil on museum board

One of the things that impressed me the most in the
workshop with Ovanes Berberian was watching
him do a demo from a black and white rough sketch.

He did the painting largely from imagination, and
suggested that we do the same, either from a
previously painted painting or a loose sketch,
revisiting the same scene or subject multiple times.

I really enjoyed painting this and found it was much
easier to ignore local color and just create my own
color scheme.

Gale Force

Watch Tower at Dusk  9 x 12 oil on board
to purchase click here

Interested in a little history of the watch towers that cover Malta?

My friend Jeni and I went out the other evening to paint the 'magic hour'.
That particular day was very special because we actually had clouds
in Malta, which normally has deep blue cloudless skies.

The unusual weather was also accompanied by gale force winds.
I'm not kidding, seriously, it was a moderate gale
but, hey, it was still as gale.

Tie down the Solteck, tape the palette in place, and just forget the visor.
Afterward we had a good laugh at what our hair looked like:
We looked alot like my buddy Robi:)
'They' always say that pets and their humans look alike.....

Colorful Mood

I was in a very colorful mood the other day when I met
friends in the park to paint. It's pretty obvious when you look
at what I was wearing, you might have noticed;)

The resulting painting, Meet at Dixie's is one of those
colors gone wild moments, a Jamaica me crazy color filled day!

Green Window

Green Window 9x12 oil on board

I went outside with a friend the other day to
do this color study in a beautiful Maltese garden in Valetta.
After all the rain in France I just had to get out in
this perfect sunny weather.
Even though I paint in the shade it felt so warm:)
Nice contrast to my visit to France.

My goal with this painting was to lay on thick
juicy color and push the color temperature shifts.
I think I did that!
